Calcium Nitrate Fertilizer
Calcium Nitrate is the only 100% water-soluble source of calcium available to farmers that simultaneously delivers both calcium and nitrogen in their most plant-available forms. Widely used across vegetables, fruits, and field crops throughout India, it is one of the most reliable and effective tools for preventing calcium-related crop disorders while also supporting healthy vegetative growth through its readily available nitrate nitrogen content.
Why Plants Need Calcium Nitrate
Calcium is often called the “brick and mortar” of plant cells — it is a structural building block of every cell wall in the plant. Without adequate calcium, cell walls become weak and unstable, leading to problems like blossom end rot in tomato and chilli, tip burn in leafy vegetables, fruit cracking in grapes and pomegranate, and bitter pit in apple. These disorders are not caused by pests or diseases, but simply by calcium deficiency — and Calcium Nitrate is the most reliable and direct way to prevent and correct them.
How Calcium Nitrate Works
Once dissolved in water and applied through drip irrigation or foliar spray, Calcium Nitrate is rapidly absorbed by the plant — calcium through the roots and xylem, and nitrate nitrogen through both roots and leaves. Inside the plant, calcium is immediately used to reinforce and stabilize cell walls, while nitrate nitrogen fuels protein synthesis, chlorophyll production, and healthy vegetative growth. Being free from chloride, sodium, and other harmful elements, Calcium Nitrate improves rather than degrades soil health with regular use, making it one of the safest fertilizer choices for long-term soil management.
Why Calcium Nitrate Is Better Than Other Calcium Sources
Many farmers try to correct calcium deficiency using gypsum, lime, or calcium chloride, but these sources are either slow to release, harmful to soil chemistry, or poorly absorbed by plants. Calcium Nitrate, being fully water-soluble and immediately plant-available, works faster and more efficiently than all of these alternatives. Its nitrate form of nitrogen is also more immediately available to plants compared to urea or ammoniacal nitrogen sources, meaning the crop gets a dual nutritional benefit from a single, easy application through drip or foliar spray.
Key Benefits of Calcium Nitrate
- Prevents blossom end rot in tomato, chilli, and capsicum
- Prevents fruit cracking in grapes, pomegranate, and tomato
- Strengthens cell walls for better disease and pest tolerance
- Improves fruit size, colour, firmness, and post-harvest shelf life
- Supplies readily available nitrate nitrogen for healthy vegetative growth
- Improves soil pH and increases availability of trace elements
- 100% water-soluble — no residue, ideal for drip and fertigation systems
When to Apply
- Pre-Flowering Stage — to strengthen cells before flower and fruit formation begins
- Fruit Setting Stage — to prevent blossom end rot and fruit cracking
- Fruit Development Stage — to improve fruit firmness, size, and shelf life
Suitable Crops
Calcium Nitrate is suitable for all crops including tomato, chilli, capsicum, brinjal, cucumber, watermelon, muskmelon, apple, grapes, pomegranate, banana, citrus, onion, ginger, turmeric, cotton, sugarcane, potato, and all other vegetables, fruits, and field crops requiring strong calcium nutrition for quality and shelf life. For complete crop nutrition, many farmers also use it alongside Humic Acid 98% Flakes to improve root development and nutrient retention in soil, and Fulvic Acid 80% for faster absorption of calcium and other nutrients into plant cells.
Storage Instructions
Store Calcium Nitrate in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the container tightly sealed and out of reach of children. Being hygroscopic in nature, ensure the bag is properly sealed after each use to prevent moisture absorption.
